Jarvis Pinckney Calvert of Newport, Rhode Island "Ship's Pilot"



Jarvis Pinckney Calvert was born about 1814, Newport, Rhode Island he was the son of William and Lydia (Hart) Calvert of Rhode Island. 

Jarvis Pinckney Calvert married Elvira Priscilla Kelso who was born in, New York, New York. The above photo is of their tombstone's Grandpa and Grandma.  Jarvis and Elivra are buried in their daughter Elizabeth (Calvert) Meday's family plot. Elizabeth Youle Calvert married George Kurtze Meday. Jarvis Pinckney Calvert of Brooklyn New York's occupation is given as (Pilot) as in a ship's pilot. At the time of their daughter Ida Carrie Calvert's marriage to William Minor Cooke (1872) Marriage License Brooklyn, New York, the Calvert family was living in Montauk, Long Island, New York. 

The 1860 New York, New York census, shows James, Ida and William Calvert living with their older married brother John Calvert. 

The 1860 New York, New York Census shows head of household Jarvis Calvert wife Elvira, George Mday 26, Elizabeth Mday 26, Maria Mday 3, George Mday 2. 

1870 Elvira Calvert head of household widowed with, Ida and Willie Calvert, a Mary Johnston age 59 born New York.

1878 Brooklyn directory Elvira Calvert listed widow son John Calvert listed telephone operator.

1880 Elvira Calvert is enumerated widowed head of household with her daughter and son in law William Minor Cooke and Ida Carrie Calvert listed in her household.

Jarvis Pi(n)ckney Calvert  born about 1814, died after 1860, and Elvira Priscilla Kelso born about 1817 and died 6 August 1895 age 78 at death are buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery. They had issue:

I also found a record for a Jarvis P Calvert that died 01/10/1852, New York City, region New York. This might be a child of Jarvis P Calvert and his wife Elvira Priscilla Kelso who died young.

Lizzie Youle Meday widow of George Kurtze Meday and daughter of the late Jarvis Pinckney Calvert. Funeral services at her late residence, 20 Roosevelt PL., Wednesday Nov 24, upon arrival of train leaving Pennsylvania Depot at 2 p.m. and Flatbush Ave Depot at 1:56 p.m. Interment Private.

Rebecca Jane Calvert, born 1810 Rhode Island married Henry Foster 1817, 10 September 1846, Newport, Rhode Island, resided Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, she died 31 March 1872, Hartford, Connecticut. 
John T Calvert, born about 1811 Rhode Island married Sarah Reese (died Cincinnati 1844).
Jarvis Pinckney Calvert, born 1814 New Port, Rhode Island married Elvira Priscilla Kelso.

I have not been able to find the parent's of William Calvert born 1770, Rhode Island, married Lydia Hart, but going by their son Jarvis's full name, I found this interesting item when researching this Rhode Island Calvert family line.

Lydia born about 1725 living Newport, Rhode Island, 3 April 1749 She presented the account as administratrix of husband married there (Newport Rhode Island) 19 October 1743 husband Jarvis Pinckney*.  Lydia (Caswell) Pinckney is a Mayflower descendant through her mother Lydia (Peckham) Caswell, who descends from Richard Warren of the Mayflower.
